I am sure I am not the first to think of this and its not the best time either , but pvc pipe make great seed starters. I have been using the 1 inch and 3/4 inch thin walled pvc pipe to create clamps for shower caps for a while and this year I decided to try cutting in four inch pieces to start my okra in and turned out really well. I bought a window sill planter from home depot for ten bucks to hold them in.
I would cut the pvc pipe in about 4 inch sections then will with semi wet peat moss and pack it down into a plug like bottom. I would then fill the pipe again with peat moss and place the seed in each one. the packed plug keeps the peat moss in the pipe. I used to put 3 seeds in each hole for cucumbers and such that can be direct sowed and would end up with some with three plants growing out of them and others with none. I plan on using this next year to cut down on the number of wasted seeds.
