set up and watering

I've just set up my new EB system and planted my two tomatoes. I'm concerned about the amount of water I had to put in to fill up to the overflow drain. I feel like I'm drowning my tomatoes! I couldn't use quite all of the 2 cf of potting soil. Have I done something wrong???

You can't over fill the EB. Is the mix mounded a little higher than the top efge?

Thanks. Yes, it is mounded at least 5", as high as I could get it without falling out. It's just such a unique new way of gardening. I'm really excited to see how things turn out!
