Is it necessary to use the covers? I'm in central Florida and I didn't have any covers when I replanted so I left them off. I have four boxes with collards and onions planted. I'm not concerned about weeds but I'm wondering if the growth of my plants might be affected due to possibly higher evaporation rates without them, even though I can water daily.
