Pea Fence Help

I posted something similar in bdank's pea fence post, so please bear with me.  I wanted to order some more pea fences from Gurney's since they are having a sale today. I have purchased them twice before. Both times, the price shown on the webpage was for a set of 2 fences (you need 2 fences per EB for indeterminate tomatoes). It was $27.99 for the set of 2 the last time I bought them in 8/12. Today, when you look at the item (and it has the same item number), it says on the webpage you only get ONE pea fence (not 2) for $29.99 (more than double the price). It occurred to me that maybe they just made a mistake on the website and if I try to call to order they will tell me that I get 2 pieces for $29.99. However, when I called, the person on the phone informed me that price is indeed for only 1 fence and not for 2. I told him that I suspected that this may be a mistake, but he said without an old catalog to show them, I am out of luck. They don?t believe me. I don?t have any old catalogs to show them. Do any of you all happen to have an old Gurney's catalog that shows that you get 2 fences for the one price in the past? Thanks!

Having worked with data entry and inventory computer screens, there is an itty bitty field called UM or Unit of Measure. In Gurney's case, that would be ST or SET, and a qty of one would be one set. Perhaps there's an error where the UM says EA, or the rep thinks QTY of 1 means 1 fence. I would talk to customer service and be sure they understand what they're selling.

In any case, they are packaged 2 in a box by the manufacturer, and I doubt Gurneys has repackaged all the fence boxes. A look at other garden suppliers will show you that they are all offering pea fences as either 2 for the $$$ or as a set of 2. In any case, $30 for 1 fence would be a huge ripoff... after all, they're only bent wire.

Hi Mickie, I figured it was something like that, but the person I talked to just thought I was making it up to get free stuff, I think. It does say in words, For each offer ordered, get 1 fence per offer, so they seem to be trying to making a point of it, that you will only get 1, which concerned me. I do recall them coming in the factory box, 2 together. I would be surprised as well if Gurney?s opened the boxes and separated the pair. I was thinking of just ordering it and hoping that there would really be 2 in the factory box, as before. I found them on the Henry Field?s website, and they look like the identical product (they even have the same item number) and there it also says you get 1 fence. Then on Garden?s Alive, also the same item number, it says you get 2 8-ft sections (but they are $10 more). I believe that Gurney?s, Henry Fields, and Garden?s Alive are all the same company, but I am not 100% sure. I will try to call them back but it?s hard for me to do that during normal business hours. I called kind of late in the day and I don?t think I was really talking to Gurney?s but rather some call center in a far away land (who knows where). I may just take the gamble and order and hope it is the same as before (2 per box per offer). Thanks!

I just ordered these about 2 months ago and they came as 2 sections in each box. They connect as an upper abd lower section making one big fence. This may be why they count it as a quantity of one?

Burpee has "1 Pkg. of 2 fences" for $33.96

http://www.burpee.com/gardening-supplies/garden-growers/supports-ties-and-fences/pea-and-cucumber-fence-2-pack-prod001250.html?catId=3052&trail=

Park seed:  "Composed of 2 sets of six 14-inch by 31-inch connected panels" $29.95

And of course Gardens Alive has them as a set of 2, but outrageously priced at $39.95

I have fired off a stern email to Gurney's questioning accuracy of the the description and price. I will post if I get a reply.

Thanks, Mickie, please let us know what they say.

I just went ahead and ordered. I didn't want to miss the sale. I ordered 2, hoping to get 2 sets of 2 (4).  I will let you know what I get.

I emailed Gurney's and we went round 'n round trying to learn exactly what they're giving for the ~$29.... I think now it's only 1 fence per box, but who knows? Please post when you receive your order to let us know if Gurney's has decided to rip us off now that the demand for pea fences has gone way up. If so, they've lost my future business... Park Seed and Burpee are still selling sets of 2 at a reasonable price.

They "said" it's going to ship soon so we will soon find out and I will let you know.

If the price has indeed doubled I have no problem switching to Park Seed or Burpee's if they are the exact same dimensions and will fit the EB.

Wonderful! That goes to show how ill-informed the Gurney's staff is. I may grab a few more fences the next time they have a cash sale.

Yay! I'm glad to hear that too. I haven't gotten mine yet so that makes me feel better. If they could have told me that when I placed the order I may have ordered more, but I didn't want to be a chump and overpay. I'll have to wait for the next sale again too. I want to try it with lemon cucumbers, because they are too unruly for the regular trellis system.

I just ordered and received, within four days, three Pea Fences(two per box ) from Park Seeds for $25.95 each for a total of $77.85 with free shipping. By the look at the above posts this seems like a fair price.
