Mulch Covers
« on: June 19, 2020, 05:42:58 pm »
Hi All,
This is my second year using earth boxes.  I realized last year I used the white side of the mulch cover up - but given the weather when I planted this year I left the black side up.  I have planted tomatoes and peppers - and both have leaved out to the point where they cover a lot of the black cover.  My concern is that it will be hotter than 85 degrees from about now through August.  Should I be concerned?  i can't take off the mulch cover.  Is there anything I can do if the leaves covering the mulch cover isn't enough to protect from the heat of the black?  Thanks!

You'll be fine. I'm in 9a and I exclusively use the black cover.
Why Google, when you have me?

I've used my earthbox for first time this season- it worked great for tomatoes (zone 9b). I am wondering why a new mulch cover will be needed each year?

It's not, unless you're going to grow something needing a different hole configuration
