Spinach not doing well
« on: May 25, 2020, 02:24:29 pm »
Hi, my spinach started great from seed but now some of the seedlings are wilting and appear to be dying. Others seem fine, so far.  Can you tell me what might be wrong, and how I might correct it? Thanks.

Need more information. Are you growing in an EartBox? Need more on your setup and location.
Why Google, when you have me?

Yes, I’ve used earth boxes for years but never tried spinach before. It is at a window inside my sun room, facing south/southeast. Two rows of Burpee “space hybrid” seeds separated by the fertilizer strip in the center. The corners seem to be doing ok but the seedlings that came up mid-row all withered and died. I have kept the water reservoir filled. Just can’t imagine what’s going on. I used new soil purchased this year from Earth Box and followed all the instructions...thanks for whatever you might suggest!

I believe the problem is direct seeding into the EarthBox. Many smaller seeds don't germinate well in a large volume of mix. I would try again in smaller containers, 2 or 3 inch, and then transplant the seeds that germinate.

Thanks very much, I’ll give it a go.
