Questions and Answers / Re: espoma soil question potting mix/raised bed mix

Raised beds mixes are not appropriate for use in EBs. The recommended professional container mixes have vastly different physical characteristics. Don't cheap out on the mix, you'll get what you pay for.

Questions and Answers / espoma soil question potting mix/raised bed mix

Can I use Espoma Organic raised bed mix? What is the difference from that and Espoma organic potting mix.
Last year I used a local seed starting mix from Tilth that was really good I added some pete to the mix just to be safe. I could just used the the tilth but I have a local store selling Espoma Organic raised bed mix for a cheaper price.

Questions and Answers / potting mix is wet
« Last post by GaFreediver on April 20, 2023, 10:02:35 am »
Originally I got a 100% peat-free container/raised bed mix.  I've since dumped it out and got a 75-peat moss potting mix.  Expert gardening potting mix.

Some of the bags of potting soil are wet.  Once the boxes are filled up should I leave the cover off and leave in sun to dry it out before I Plant or is that ok/normal?

Thanks!

If you're using professional container mix there's no need to add anything as they're engineered to have the proper physical characteristics

Questions and Answers / Re: Container Color question
« Last post by JessieJim1 on April 18, 2023, 11:26:44 pm »
Dark-colored containers, like black, can absorb more heat from the sun, which can be a concern in hot summer climates like yours. Some gardeners also use reflective materials, like white plastic or aluminum foil, to cover the outside of their containers to help reflect heat away.

it depends on the capacity of the watering system, the size of the Earth Boxes, and the water requirements of the plants you're growing.

Questions and Answers / Container Color question
« Last post by SilverRose on April 17, 2023, 03:04:20 pm »
I just discovered the Earthbox from watching a youtube video from a homesteader. I live in Southern Oklahoma in growing zone 7b-8a. I'm just a couple of miles from the Oklahoma/Texas border so I get really hot summers. I'm ready to place an order today and prefer the black containers but with my hot summers I'm wondering if I need to choose a different color? I'm new to container gardening for veggies and looking for any insite or recomendations from those of you with experience. Thanks
