Questions and Answers / Re: Removable fittings for AWS?
« Last post by gardendoc on May 25, 2023, 02:45:36 pm »
Over the years I don't remember seeing a post about easier disconnection for winter storage. For the other question, Mister Landscape makes 1/4" tubing valves so you can turn off certain EBs, that's what I use.   https://misterlandscaper.com/14-in-vinyl-onoff-valve-qty-3

Questions and Answers / Removable fittings for AWS?
« Last post by thefist on May 23, 2023, 10:43:48 am »
Years ago I recall some post about some fittings which could be put on the AWS lines so they could be taken apart somewhat for easier storage and installation/removal.

Can someone refer me to that or to the parts necessary to do it?

I have 5 boxes.  Perhaps there is some x5 manifold that could be used for this?

Another use case would be end of year when only 1 or 2 boxes are still producing and the others could be shut off.

Questions and Answers / Broken main stem on Celebrity Tomato
« Last post by thefist on May 23, 2023, 10:32:26 am »
Oops!   I mistakenly snipped off the main stem of a couple Celebrity tomatoes, just above the first bud.
There’s been no recovery in about 2 weeks.   Will these eventually grow a new stem on their own or will something need to be done?
I always prune low suckers for some size control but I guess I got a little aggressive this time!

I may have done this on one Brandywine also.

Thank you! Yes, it was your video I saw!

Really appreciate the link!
Is it seem to be about the same thickness material as the original EB ones?

You saw one of my EarthBox videos. Here it is, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOjO8XGoivU&t=16s

Here is the link to the row cover I'm currently using, https://growerssolution.com/collections/paper-plastic-mulch/products/black-plastic-mulch-1-0-mil-embossed

Since I have 136 EarthBoxes making my own covers definitely saves some dollars.

Questions and Answers / Row covers for Earthbox?
« Last post by tds1 on May 07, 2023, 10:36:38 am »
Hi all - Getting ready for the season and trying to figure out if I should try something different for the covers.
I have 24 EB's so using the covers adds up each season.
I saw a video where someone was using row covers that were cut and tied at the corners.
Wondering if anyone uses this? If so, where are you buying the row covers, and any tips for cutting and tying them?
Is it worth the effort?
Thanks!

Questions and Answers / Re: Old fertilizer, roots and soil disposal

Are you dumping out your EarthBoxes? There's really no need to do that. The container mix only needs to have some more added and fluffed up with each planting. I have 136 EarthBoxes, some of which are 15 years old, and I have never dumped one out.

Questions and Answers / Old fertilizer, roots and soil disposal

We have nowhere to dispose of old soil, roots and fertilizer. Yard waste collection won’t take it. Where do people dump the old stuff?

Questions and Answers / Re: how to handle bugs in general
« Last post by gardendoc on April 30, 2023, 01:21:52 pm »
You're right this is kind of a vague question. That's OK. You're probably seeing the basic stinkbug bug and some of the caterpillar/worm type of pests. UGA Extension would be a great local source of info for you. Here's a listing for the UGA Extension, https://earthbox.com/help-center/cooperative-extension-list#Georgia

For stinkbugs and others of that type I like to use permethrin and for the caterpillar types I like to use spinosad, following the label instructions.
