There are size limits and I believe you need to make 10 posts before being able to post images. I'll look into it.

I'd go 8 bush beans total to give more room for their lateral growth

We had a fun visit from WLOX shooting a Page 13 feature of our Urban Nano Farm and showcasing our EarthBoxes. It gives a glimpse of my crazy garden. Enjoy!

Tips and Tricks / Re: Tomatoes with Cracked Shouders

Some varieties are more prone to cracking. Might try picking at first blush and allow to ripen on the window sill or next to your coffee maker.

I've been growing in EBs for over 10 years and have never seen any yellowjackets or wasps build nests at the EB base. Black and brown widow spiders, yes.

Was it windy? Tomatoes that are not trellised will sometime twist in the wind and split longitudinally

Questions and Answers / Re: Cherry Tomatoes dying prematurely

Are all the plants Husky Cherry Red? If it was the CaNO3 all the tomatoes would be showing the same symptoms. I would lay off the Safer since you don't have any insect pressure in the enclosure. Send me a hi res image, gary.bachman@msstate.edu and I'll take a closer look

We've successfully grown broccoli in our EBs. I just used the Bonnie transplants, 6 per EB. Size wise in the 4 inch range, harvest carefully and the plants will push new heads, these will be smaller, but it extends the harvest. Happy New Year

I water using drip that's attached to my former lawn irrigation system. 1/2" pipe distributes and 1/8" go into each EB using pressure compensated emitters.

Tips and Tricks / Re: How to Plant Garlic
« on: December 10, 2018, 09:22:46 am »
I've been successful with onions, both bulbs and transplants, and scallions in my EBs. Try planting just below the mix, too deep could be the reason for failure.

Questions and Answers / Re: More snack questions

I would use the calcium nitrate snack for everything except the herbs. You should avoid using the hydrated lime, it's better to make sure you're adding the appropriate dolomite during the planting cycle and supplementing with the snack

Aline, use a spinosad a.i. drench for fire ants, 4 TBS/gallon. You have to pull the cover back and thoroughly drench the box
