Questions and Answers / Re: Ants in Earthbox

Depends on the type of ant. Regular ants (meaning other than mutant fire ants) I plug the drain hole and fill the box with water and leave it for a day. The ants will leave on their own to find a new home. If they are fire ants the box belongs to them now. Filling with water will do nothing but make them meaner. Best just to buy a new box and let them keep theirs.  :o

Did you apply lime? I think strawberries like it a little more acidic.

Yes and Yes.

I planted the type with edible shells. Never got to harvest any because my children would eat them after school as fresh snacks right off of the plant.

It's been awhile but If I remember correctly they grew 4 or 5 feet tall.

Okay per the old thread I planted 20 per Eb not 24 but hey that was a long time ago.

Questions and Answers / Re: What is the best method?

I would not plant bush beans and peppers in the same EB. The beans will grow much faster than the peppers and overpower them.

I always install the cover 1st then plant. I've never had to widen the openings in the cover once planted. I make the opening big enough for the mature plant. The plants, if the stems are large enough will stretch the opening if need be.

I've planted 24 bush beans per box with success. Only issue I had was finding all the beans because there were so many.  :o Kind of like an Easter egg hunt.  ;D I did 4 cutouts of about an inch by 5 inches in the cover. 2 cutouts on each side of the EB. Planted 6 beans in each cutout. I planned on trimming the beans once started but decided to let all of them grow (I can't kill my babies). I think I filled a couple of 5gal buckets with beans.

I had a thread on the old forum. Is that archived somewhere?

Questions and Answers / Re: Seeds will not germinate in my Earthboxes!

To germinate seed in a hot or dry environment you may need to add supplemental moisture from the top. The top inch or so may not be moist enough.

Over the Garden Fence / iPhone/Ipad compatibility

Hey forum admin,

Since you won't respond to my forum PMs or my facebook PMs I figured I'd ask this question here. I can rarely post from my iPhone or iPad nor can a edit a post. Maybe once out of ten attempts I can post. Is there going to be any effort by Earthbox to make this forum iOS friendly?

I'm typing this on my work computer (yes before my work starts). At home the last thing I want to do is get back on a computer after using one all day. At home I use an iPad. It would be nice to be able to post on this forum from iOS.

Hey Doc glad you made it through okay. Hurricane Irma gave me a beatdown and had I had my boxes planted I'm sure they would have been destroyed.
