Questions and Answers / Trellis for butternut squash
« on: June 20, 2018, 10:40:52 am »
Morning,

Does anybody trellis butternut, spaghetti squash, and melons?  I'm trying to figure out what to use to get them off of the ground or should I let them run on the black ground cover?

I have about 2 feet between the boxes and a wooden fence.  I'm thinking a cattle panel leaning against fenve would work, but is it better to trellis?

Since it's almost the end of the season, I'd like to get it done before next spring.

Thanks,
Aline

Questions and Answers / Tiny bugs in starting pots
« on: June 19, 2018, 01:16:14 pm »
I am starting plants for the fall and have these really small bugs in the soil.  I always clean and sanitize the the pots and the self watering trays, but I always seem to have these bugs.  In the past I haven't worried about them, but it really bothers me, especially when seeds don't sprout.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
I bought a rose bush @ three weeks ago and sprayed it as soon as I got home just in case it was carrying something.  I planted it in a root and veg box.  It has been blooming like crazy and I am keeping it well watered and fertilize once per week with rose food fertilizer.
The plant doesn't seem to be thriving.  A lot of the leaves are turning brown.  I took a pic yesterday and it seems that some of the leaves have little hairs on them.  I'm not familiar with this.  Any ideas.

Zone 9a.  It's warmed up to 32 degrees and we still have a little bit of snow on the ground.  47 in one greenhouse and 35 in the other.  Hope the cukes are OK in the 35 degrees.

Questions and Answers / Pea Sheller

I'm looking for a pea sheller.  One of the older kinds that you just push the bean through and it cuts through the pod.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Aline
