Hey all,

Have been battling (fairly successfully so far, I believe) whiteflies and hornworms on my tomatoes. Came out the other day to find my pepper (can't remember if serrano or jalapeno) plant leave "sewed up" with a cobweb type material. Have been going out early morning, mid day, and late night the last few nights and have not seen the culprit. Only thing I can see on my plants (maybe it's related??) are some ants, which up to this point were not on any of my other plants.

Can't find anything similar in pics or posts. Any ideas?.... Thanks!

Never seen spidermites tie leaves up like for to form a pu·pa[ pypə ] 1.developing insect inside cocoon: an insect at the stage between a larva and an adult in complete metamorphosis, during which the insect is in a cocoon or case, stops feeding, and undergoes internal changes. This is something else. Mites hang out on the undersides and suck the life out of things.

Maybe something as simple as a spider that just decided to use my plants for shelter/trap??

It's a leaf roller, there are a couple of butterflies and moths that do this. The leaf is "sown" so the immature caterpillar can pupate

My grandfather used to say that once in your life you need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, and a preacher. But every day, three times a day you need a farmer

Hmm....maybe the leaf roller was interrupted (hopefully) by a large hungry bird. As you can see, there's not much on the inside, and the leaf was rolled pretty wide open.

Since growing my tomatoes I have developed a SERIOUS hatred for any and all types of moths. No longer will I let them survive when I see them near my plants.  Shocked

I've found a particular garden spiders to this, I wish I knew the name of it.  I get a lot of them and I wait for the wasp and yellow jacks to come around and eat them. It's fun watching the battle.
