Hi all!
I'm new to earthboxes and gardening. I have 10 boxes set up so far in my vegetable and have had moderate success so far. BER has been a real problem  Angry and I've made a few mistakes, but I'm not letting it deter me. I plan on adding berries and grapes next year.

Hi, and you get a worthless award for getting your location into first posts!
Bet I made more mistakes than you!

What are you growing in the 10?

I planted tomatos, lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini, crookneck squash, spaghetti squash, sweet peppers, jalapeņos, serano peppers, poblano peppers, bush beans, watermelon and cantaloupe. They only reason I was savy enough to get my location in, is because I've been lurking the last fees months trying to figure out this earthbox thing. Location requests seemed to come up in quite a few posts.

"Hi-Desert Gardening" is NOT an oxymoron.

Welcome,Kareneh.

What kind of lettuce are you growing?

The seed racks have packets of Nevada Lettuce over here in Southern Cal. I've also seen Jericho recommended for us desert folks because it is grown in Israel, and some people claim Winter Density holds up well into the spring. I never got to find out because the ground squirrels wiped out a whole box.

Now I spray around them with Predator Pee and it seems to be working.

So far, so good.

Welcome,Kareneh.

This is my first spring gardening so I just grabbed whatever green leaf lettuce I could find at the local home depot. It did well until late April when we started getting consistent high 90 to 100 degree temps. I'm trying to plan out some sort of shade structure for next year. I also plan to avoid home depot next year due to my habit of impulse plant purchasing. Thanks for the tip about Jericho. I'll give it a try and maybe see if I can find other heat tolerant varieties.
