Are Kentucky Wonder beans stringless or not?  Asking for my son who just called.  he has two packages; one says stringless and the other does not say stringless anywhere.

If KW is the variety, how can they be different?

Huh?

Types
Stringless pole beans come in several variations. Kentucky Wonder is a well-known type, but other beans include Kentucky Blue and Romano Italian. http://www.ehow.com/facts_6758518_stringless-pole-beans.html

There are different strains plus they can be bush or pole.

Ack.

So if you just see the "Kentucky Wonder" words in the large print, you still don't know what you have!

This seems quite different than I am used to.  Comparing to tomatoes, if you see "Celebrity," that defines one single thing.  It looks like the "Kentucky Wonder" words are more similar to "heirloom" or "hybrid" in tomato-land...simply defining some general class rather than a variety.

Had another conversation with son tonight and got more info.

He is harvesting KW's now that clearly are stringful, not stringless.  He hates them.

He has two other packets of KW he purchased.  KW is in big type. You have to read the smaller text to see that they are stringless and pole type.

Conclusion: if the packet does not explicitly SAY 'stringless' (and it will not be obvious), they will be string type.

Musing:  How hard would it be for the seed companies to put

Green Beans
KENTUCKY WONDER
Pole - Stringless

as the "title" of the packet?
