Do you think it is the mulch ? the mosquitos ?....mine are mostly on concrete so there is nothing under them like mulch.

Yeah, it probably has a lot to do with the mulch and the water from the earthboxes, plus the bugs (their food source). The mulch attracts a lot of worms and spiders for them to eat.

Okay, the snake would freak me out. That's why (not really, but it sounds good) I live in the north. No snow snakes (or poisonous snakes)!

It was in the earthbox when I pulled the cover back. I'm not afraid of snakes, so it didn't really freak me out. It's a ring neck snake, they are harmless. We do have Copperheads here so I have to be careful of that.
