I thought about putting a windbreak mesh on the back of the trellis wooden panels in my garden wall.

Then I thought the wind might just blow the whole panel and mesh off! I suppose it's the same with your railings. I know the enviromesh over hoops on my raised beds cuts down on wind and rain damage.
