It's 5 days in and we haven't had any snow this month.  It did hail a bit today though.

We might get into the 50's this weekend.

Sigh. . . I haven't even planted yet.

I've had such bad luck over the years with making starts, this year I 'hired' my CSA farmer to make them for me.  She was getting antsy because she has a new greenhouse and had nothing to do in it.  I told her I could plant in the EarthBoxes about a month earlier than in ground because it would be warmer, not sticky clay, and I have a lot of remay.

She told me the other day that it is still more than a month before time to plant.

I just got back from Maui and had a hard time getting on the plane - not only because it's a long uncomfortable flight, but mostly because everywhere I looked I saw things growing and I didn't want to leave.

A friend has chard in her yard year-round that she mixed in with flowers - what she doesn't eat, looks nice against the blooms.  It gave me a good idea for adding some color and pollinator attractors to my yard.  I saw a lot of gardens that had all stages of growth - newly planted small things up against tall plants that looked to be about finished.  It is truely paradise!

Hubby got a little impatient with me because I wanted to eat at the Farmer's market instead of the restaurant.  ;>

Florida is nice too - I lived there for a year and had to tear myself away.  I've got a few relatives there.  Maybe there's hope for a future residence change.  Ahh, a girl can dream. . .   ;>

Aw, Deb, it is going to be a good day tomorrow. The flood warnings are going to expire.  I plan to plant some broccoli, lettuce, spinach seed.  You can do it.  Envy of your trip to Hawaii.  You were in sunshine!  Smiley

It's good to have someone in the same area around here.

Yes, I see the rivers are dropping and the sun is supposed to be out.  It might even be a good weekend.  Although, sometimes I think the forecasts are designed to give us hope so we won't all go jumping off cliffs or something.  ;>

Greens and more peas are pretty do-able.  And I've got a few more boxes to refresh so they're ready when the starts are.  I've been wishing I'd kept a few tomato seeds so I could try out John's idea of planting them directly into the EarthBox in a deep hole, backfilling as they grow.  I'm afraid to go near a seed rack - I tend to buy anything that looks pretty and that includes most vegetables.  ;<

I broke down and bought some chard, in honor of my friend.  It was so tasty!  I wonder how it would have survived last months' snow after snow after snow cover?  I know it's supposed to like cool, but would it have survived the foot of fluff we had a few weeks ago?

And to think, I almost gave in to the mid-winter break hysteria and planted in the 70* February weather.

Started harvesting bush beans, so far over 1.5 lbs from one EB.

The corn has started to silk, should be ready in about 3 weeks.  The vine crops are going everywhere, have already set several melons.

Growing a pickling variety, goal is to can some pickles.
