Mine finally caught up! I've got at least a dozen tomatos forming and more flowers than I can count!!

Can. Not. Wait.

So excited!!

Cheers,

Patio tomato growing in EarthBox Jr.....Week#13.
No growth this week.  Daytime temps in the 60's. Nighttime temps in the 40's here in NEPA.

Thanks John! I really didn't pay attention. Typically I grow things from seed but I got this from Home Depot. It was a Bonnie Plant and said "Patio Tomato" and I think it said "cherry" somewhere too. It was a frantic day as my MIL was visiting and I wasn't paying much attention to anything.

I do find the Jr runs dry quickly with the tomatos. Not sure how I'm going to deal with that come late June/July with working all day, etc...Than being said, I've discovered that I have more sun on the side yard since the willow came down. Enough for about 3-4 more boxes, so maybe an AWS for downstairs is in my future as well!

Cheers,
J.C.

Having patio tomatoes growing in Jr here at EarthBox, I agree with you about Jr drying quickly. I am concerned about not being here to water over the weekend in July and August. We'll have to wait and see.  If you loyally water your patio tomato growing in Jr daily, I don't see a problem.  Good luck with your 2012 garden.

With one Red Robin (loaded) and one Sweet 'N Neat (no tomatoes on it yet), my Junior goes dry every day.  Both of these varieties have apx. 12-15" plants.  Of course, it's in the 80's and mostly sunny here nearly every day.

When I first read about jr. I didn't understand why anyone would want such a tiny box when the price difference wasn't that much to the regular EB. Well I have to sat I love my jr. I just picked up my second one today and see more in my future.

Everytime I look at my tomato plants and the pics of tomato plants on this forum, I wonder what kind of root system in the EB? I think most of the EB must be filled with roots!

That is why we recommend only 2 tomato plants per EarthBox. Some people choose to plant 1 cherry tomato plant per EarthBox, but there is room for 2.    I see you live in Pennsylvania.  Over the winter, your tomato roots will "break down" in the EarthBox.
