Hey there,

Just the one tomato? I thought somewhere it said two Patio varieties (I may have gotten that wrong). Do you think the one would provide a better yeild? Just curious. I'm trying to decide what to plant in my junior at the mo.

Cheers,
J.C.

Hey There   Back at ya,   To be perfectly honest with you, we know one patio tomato would be a safe guess, unfortunately, we have not had ample time, nor product to test...so for now our recommendation is one patio type tomato, subject to change if we or our forum members prove us wrong! To be honest with you and this is Kathy the horticulturalist talking now, and not Kathy, representing EarthBox, I think any determinate tomato may work, if you can keep it from tipping over. I'll be testing that theory this year, also.

You might want to change the recommendation on the website. I purchased a  jr. based on the information from your site saying two patio tomatoes.   I would have gone with a full sized one if I had known.

Also, I bought mine at a garden center but all the supplies were packaged together and there was no saucer in mine. I don't know if it was a fluke or not.  My jr will be kept outside so it doesn't matter to me but someone who purchases it for inside use will be disapointed.

Hmm...in that case, maybe I'll stick to one. There was a variety of patio tomato I wanted to try (chocolate cherry tomato) and the Junior will be, I believe, perfect for it. I do plan on taking pictures and posting this year, so I'll be able to show my results!

Cheers,

Oops that's me being bad, I guess, I decided to go with 2, since those suggestons came from me, so I stand corrected, 2 on the patio types....

J.C., There is a patio Chocolate Cherry Tomato? I grew Chocolate Cherry toms last year. They were great and I'll grow them again this year, but, they were indeterminate. They grew about 7 ft. tall and very prolific with a wonderful taste.

I like chocolate covered cherries as much as Tag likes brownies.  Grin

Oh, we're talking chocolate cherry tomatoes, never mind.  Sad

I stopped in my garden center yesterday and they gave me a saucer as well as two shower caps for my trouble. They are a great dealer representing you!

Chrissykr   I would love to know who that retailer was, to give them an thatta way, and to replace their saucer and covers. You could message me if you don't want to publicize it.

Oh gosh, I hope so. I better check again. It was listed in the Burpee catalog. The page said "Patio Tomatos" so I made an assumption. Dang it. I need to read things more closely....

Cheers though,

Yep, better check closely, after I saw that post yesterday, I checked Burpee's website and didn't even find that tomato, I did find it a couple of other places, and it grows like any other indeterminate.....and won't be suitable for Junior.

Boo!! Oh well. I'll have to find something else for the Junior. I'm half tempted to plant it with flowers and replace the window box that I have now with it. I think it would be easier to maintain (water wise/etc) than the one that's currently there (my window boxes suffer from a lot of neglect).

The Junior is just so darn cute.

Cheers,

Wow That is really nice Kathy.
Wannemakers in Downers Grove, IL

They have a nice display of Earthbox items and lots of supplies set up for the EB. It is a nice garden center.
