If you have to plant lots of seeds (as per the video) to get a lush area like pictured, would I just leave the shower cap off?  Use organic fert mixed in?

Playing with a box of this occasionally might be more fun than the cig I would normally spend the time with.  ;>

Deb.....Why would you use an EarthBox to plant this?  It is a novelty, often sold as a houseplant, often found on seed racks, grows like a weed....Just wondering why an EarthBox?

I've had enough sensitive things in my life I sure don't want to encourage any more. Shocked

Why an EB?  Why not?

I think anyone should grow whatever they want to in their box.  For some, they have EBs as a pastime--to have fun with it.  For some, it is to provide food.  For some it is to provide visual excitement (flowers).   For some it is because they are more environmentally friendly (water, fertilizer, etc).  There are many motivations for using them.

My bit of libertarian leaning is coming out here--freedom to do whatever you want so long as it is legal and does not hurt someone else.  So, if someone wants to grow weeds because they think they are pretty, OK by me.  In fact, it would be OK even if I didn't like it.

But, I can understand someone, for example, who is focused on getting food from EBs being puzzled by someone growing flowers.  To them, it is a "big waste."  But that is because they have a different criteria for assessing "value."

Hi Kathy-
I had to go back and watch the vid again to see what I wanted to grow. . . boy this has been a busy month, I'm glad it is a short one!

1- I'd never be happy with just a flowerpot of that stuff.  I'd need at least an EarthBox sized 'plot' to play with.

2- EarthBoxes almost always grow what I plant - I can't say that for 'plantings in dirt'.

3- Conversation piece - imagine a garden tour - here's the tomatoes, the beans, the basil, the sensitive plant, the squash, the melons. . .

4- I didn't check the topic and thought it was 'unusual things you can grow in an EarthBox'.

5- This is the EarthBox forum and I wanted to keep the discussion topical.  ;>
