Hi bDank, I was wondering if there were some other kind of clamps I could use on the boxes instead of the ones made for the EB?

Reason is they want more for shipping than the cost of the parts, I can understand the need to charge a minimum on shipping but those parts should fit into a manila padded envelope and ship for less than $6.95.  Sad, but true and I don't need (can't have) more EB's because I have nowhere to place them so buying more to justify the shipping is out.

I have ordered the pea cages and expect them to ship out on 5/10, although I made my order on 4/26/11 and have already recieved my bird netting from the same order, leaving me a little confused about the pea fence not shipping at the same time.  Oh well, I can only hope I will get my cages before the plants get too big to add them to the EB's.  I like your design and think it will work here in my very windy area of South Texas.    Smiley

Hi Rockporter, I ordered mine on 4/20/11 and they have not shipped yet. I called them a few days ago and they told me that they were on back order and that they were expecting more in yesterday and then they would ship out. I just checked on my order and it still does not show them as being shipped. I guess that many people must have ordered them at the same time and they were caught off guard. I never got an update from them about this or anything. It seems that their communication skills are not the best. By the time I get mine I think that my plants might be too big as well.  Embarrassed

I haven't heard anything from them at all, when I received my order (bird net portion) it was on the shipping list in the box.  They never emailed me or anything regarding my order.

Interestingly, I made another order from Greenhouse Megastore on 5/3/2011 and received an email from them yesterday telling me that "some, or all" of your order has shipped and gave me a tracking #.  Needless to say I wasn't very happy about that.  I emailed them back and highlighted that portion of the email and asked them, "what kind of customer service is that?, you have either shipped my order in full or you need to tell me what hasn't shipped and when I can expect it.  They returned my email and told me that my shade cloth did not ship.  I bought 48 feet x 12 wide and they don't know when it will ship.  Maybe on the 2nd week of June.  I am so not happy about the customer service from both of these companies.    Angry Angry

I think you all are going to have trouble with any online gardening retailers being backed up right now. It's peek gardening season and a lot of things will be on back order. As for the Gurneys pea fences, I think I might have been part of the problem as I ordered 18 of them. Mine were also on back order for about two weeks. When I contacted customer service, I told them I need them to cage plants that were rapidly growing. They promised to put a rush on my shipping as soon as they had them back in stock, which they did. So I suggest you contact them and let them know that you need these right away. There are a couple other places that sell these pea fences (Gardeners is one) but they charge a lot more for them.

bDank, I am not having any problems with the knowledge things are on backorder, I am not happy with the nonexsistent communication regarding the backorders from both of these companies.  I did tell Gurneys in the notes section of my order what I was doing and that I was hoping to get them before my squash got too big.  I communicated very well with both companies, they haven't returned that communication to me.  Thanks for the fantastic idea and even if I can't use it now, I will use it in the fall.   Grin

I guess I got lucky. Their communication was pretty good with me. I too was worried that I wouldn't get the cages before my tomatoes got too big. Again, I got lucky and they got here in the nick of time! I hope you get yours in time. Let me know how the cages work out for you. I love mine so far.

I am glad you got yours in time, I don't think you were the cause of any of it, I don't think they keep them in stock which leaves a big mess when lots of folks order them and they don't tell you that on their website either.  I am still on the fence about buying some EB clamps, lol.   I need to go to the big box store and see what they have but I did order a "Chocolate" for my daughter to play around with.  Cool

There must be some kind of clamps available that will work. Maybe one of the guys here will offer some suggestions. The reason I like the ones that are meant for the EB staking system is because they are molded to fit the rim of the EB perfectly. I also like the fact that they are made out of the same stuff as my earthboxes. So they will probably last a long time and won't be harmed by UV light.

bDank, received my pvc fittings and even the shade cloth today from the Fed-Ex guy.  Yay!  I just checked on the pea fences and still no answer as to when I will be getting them.   Huh?

desertchick, what about you, have you heard anything yet from Gurney's??

FYI - I ordered on 4/18 they were shipped on 5/3 and I received them 5/9.  The only communication I received was when I ordered and when they shipped.  No backorder notification.  But, this was much better than the service I got from Park Seed.  I ordered pole beans in mid-December, received a notice they were backordered and would be shipped the end of January.  The next notice I got was the middle of March when they said they would be shipped the first week of April.  I finally received them 5/5 - missed the spring growing season and now have to wait until the end of August to replant.  Last year I tried to order tomato plants from Burpee and they insisted I was in zone 9 and wouldn't ship them until mid-April.  That doesn't do us much good in South Florida (zones 10a and 10b) when our season ends by the end of May or mid-June if we're lucky.  Just goes to show we're at the mercy of the merchants and need a backup plan if we don't want to be disappointed!

I too am waiting, ordered mine on 4/21....waiting to hear SOMETHING, ANYTHING from them. You would think they'd denote someplace that they are OOS and the items are backordered.

I'm holding off ordering EB clips and wire connecting clips till I know for sure my fences are enroute.  At this point my tomatoes are way too big to try to fence them in w/o breaking branches....if they don't ship soon, might be too late to use on any of my boxes this season.

glad some of you are getting your pea fence, I emailed Gurney's(2 days ago) regarding my order and they haven't responded back yet.

My husband went to Lowe's and purchased the 1.5 inch PVC to build my temporary shelter 6.6' x 8'x8' and I was so thankful I received my fittings and also the shade cloth because we have a hail storm coming tomorrow.  We pulled out the shade cloth and it is "Filthy Dirty" like it had been sitting outside and getting rained on.  There are portions that look to have sun damage to them also.  I am so upset with this supplier.

I bought 8'x50'(originally thought it was 12'x50' and glad it wasn't) of shade cloth so I could make a complete enclosure to protect against the rain, wind and hail, because I just have no other way to protect my garden since the winds come from all directions and are usually strong, gusting winds.  I took pictures but I had to cut it and use it because of the storm.  I am so upset about the product being shipped out to me in this condition.  There is a 5 year warranty on this stuff and they sent it to me already exposed to the elements and I don't know how long it has been that way.  I am not normally critical of companies but I think this is way beyond acceptable.

I just wanted to clarify I bought the shade cloth from a different company than Gurney's, not to cause any confusion and had also started a new thread on it.

I know it's too late , but........... you may be interested in checking out this supplier: A.M.Leonard, a commercial supplier that also sells to individuals. I use them any time I need serious supplies.
