It's great to see another successful EarthBox gardener. I've planted hundreds of boxes and I'm still amazed everytime I see the results. Thanks for sharing your pictures. Welcome to the family.

Thanks, everyone for the wonderful comments! I finally had to do a major cut back on the crazy basil yesterday. We made a yummy pesto sauce with it. I made linguine with shrimp last night for dinner so that used up a little of the parsley and the chives. There's still boat loads of everything out there. The tomato plant has TONS of fruit growing and you all were right about the pepper plant. I pinched off the flowers that had dried up and turned brown like you suggested and sure enough new ones have come in. The one pepper is getting bigger by the day. It's almost (but not quite) the size of my fist. Does anyone know when I should pick it? Is there a way to tell when it's ready or do you just guess at it?

my peppers are not that large. i guess it depends on what you want to do with then.
i pick them small if i put them in salads and larger if i am going to stuff. just enjoy

Thanks, Margie -- I think I might pick it and chop it up in the salad for dinner tonight then. Since we're going away I don't want to just leave it there and run risk of it getting over ripe or going bad. I'll let you know how it turned out!

  ok...I picked my very first green pepper!  Here is my proud husband posing with it for me. I also took a picture of it next to an orange and an apple so you can get the size of it. It has now been, with due reverence, beheaded, gutted and grilled. Yum-O!!! Thanks again, Margie! Adrienne |

Hi Adrienne, WOW, you have a beautiful EarthBox garden!!!!  I am jealous  I am also new to the EarthBox garden. This year only tomatoes and so far they have outgrown the ones I have planted in my garden. Planted the same tomatoes at the same time in both locations. When you can actually see the difference it is really amazing. Are you using organic fertilizer or synthetic? John |

Are you using organic fertilizer or synthetic? Thanks for the compliment, John! As everyone here knows already, the only thing I've managed to raise well over the years are two grown children...haha! Having a successful garden is completely new to me. I only discovered Earthboxes on HSN this year and decided to give it a go ...soooooooooooooo glad I did. As for the fertilizer, I just used the fertilizer that came packed inside the Earthbox. I didn't add anything different. And you're right -- it's amazing how huge things get in the EBs. It's amazing!
