Well next to the gorgeous pictures from Earthbox members here who live in the warm and sunny south, my little plants seem small  Cheesy  ...but they are healthy!  I started my Earthboxes on April 21.  Here's my progress from April 21st with a comparison of them on May 7th.

Adrienne

Geraniums 4/21/2007
My favorite spring to fall flowering plant -- geraniums.  Nothing but geraniums.  See the pretty geraniums.  The geraniums are growing.  Grow geraniums, grow!  Grow, grow, grow!

Geraniums 5/7/2007
The geraniums are going great guns!  The only reason you don't see as many blooms as originally is because I pruned off the dead heads to encourage new growth.  (Wow, listen to that.  I sounded really official and garden savvy -- dead heads...lol).  What you can't see are the tons of new buds about to burst.  I was so excited about the geraniums I got hanging pots, too.  My husband bought a bunch of brick squares and made me a little makeshift surface so I can water everything easily.  He is the BEST husband.  Didn't he do a great job?

Herbs 4/21/2007
This is the herb garden.  There are 8 plants total.  Left rear are lavender, sage, rosemary and oregano.  Front are parsley, basil, thyme and chives.  Ok so the chives look like a weeping willow but keep hope alive!

Herbs 5/7/2007
Wow look at how the chives popped up in my little herb earthbox!  Before it looked like a kid with droopy drawers.  The lavender, basil, rosemary, parsley, oregano and sage are also doing very well.  Unfortunately, the thyme bit the dust.  I keep it there only because it has two little branches that are still green so I keep hope alive.

Tomato, Bell Pepper, Marigolds 4/21/2007
This box has one tomato plant on the rear left and one bell pepper plant on the rear right.  In front are 4 small marigolds (the herb variety) to stave off buggers and to add a little color to the box.  You can chomp on them in a salad, too.  So the Earthbox instructions say only two big-time climber kind of plants per box.  I have a stake kit that fits in the holes on either side of the box for when the veggies start getting tall and strong and bearing humongous record-breaking fruit.  They will write articles in the local paper about me.  The National Enquirer will want to "know".   Just wait -- you'll see!  I'll be on You Tube for real!

Tomato, Bell Pepper, Marigolds 5/07/2007
The tomato and bell pepper plants are getting taller and fuller and the marigolds (especially the 1st and 3rd ones) have gotten very bushy.  Even the 2nd marigold is hanging in there.  I was sure that one would die but while small, it's holding its own!  The bell pepper actually already has a little pepper growing!  Just look at its cute little pepper butt sticking out!

Chives--my mother's always droop at first and then pop right up--she's also got some wonderful garlic chives that seed up that come back year after year (they do great just in the dirt up in Arlington VA) and walking chives and other chives--shes a chive maniac.  I may steal some from her at some point because she's usually willing to give some away frequently.  This may be my year to try putting some in at the house here (instead of always stealing hers!!)

hehe -- I say go for it!  Chives are a wonderful addition.  We love them in eggs and in making homemade salad dressings.  Garlic chives -- hmmm.  I'm going to have to go outside tomorrow morning and look at the little plastic plant name thingy.  I think mine might be garlic chives too.  I'll let you know

What a difference one month makes!  The last pictures were from 5/7/2007.  These are from 6/2/2007.  I put very tiny photos from the day the boxes were planted in April and the pictures taken in May in the current photos so you can see the growth.  I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo psyched!!!

I hope you will enjoy looking!
Adrienne

This is Fred and Ethel.  They have little solar panels in their hats which causes their bellies to light up at night.  They watch out for the plants for us.

The Earthboxes have filled out beautifully.  The front of the house looks so pretty with them as the focal point.  My neighbors who have seen me struggling to grow things year after year are beginning to gather and point and take pictures!  I laugh...haha...I say to them...look at me now!

The geraniums are so full and lush you can no longer see the top of the Earthbox.  If you look closely you can see the many blooms preparing to pop out.  Since I took this picture more than half have opened!

The Herb Box  The basil is insanely tall -- and believe it or not I cut it back almost twice a week but it just keeps coming back.  The thyme which was all but dead has rallied and while it is still too small to use yet -- it is making it!  The thyme only needs a little time (sorry, couldn't resist).  The rosemary, oregano, lavender, parsley, sage and chives are awesome as well.  It's so wonderful to have fresh herbs to cook with!

The tomato, pepper and marigold box   I'm wondering if my pepper plant is going to make it.  It has a ton of flowers on it but I noticed just today that many of them are shriveling up and dying out.  There are on a few buds actually bearing fruit (one is really looking pretty good).  I think, however, the tomato plant may win out -- live and learn.  Even the marigolds are going crazy -- so full and pretty.  I think, however, the marigolds and tomatoes must be keeping much needed sunlight from the pepper plant.  I'm keeping an eye on it.  I have tons of little tomatoes coming and if nothing else, it looks like I'll get at least one good pepper!  Confusious say, "War does not determine who is right, war determine who is left."  I think the peppers may be losing the war! Wink

Thanks everyone!  The funny part is, my husband and I are going on a short vacation next week to visit with our son in Las Vegas.  I have to leave my daughter to care for my Earthboxes and the cats.  Shocked  I feel like I did years and years ago when I was leaving her with a babysitter.  These are my babies!!  I wonder if I'll call home a lot to check on the pepper plant... Cheesy
