looks like mine till the blossoms fell off. must say - not thrilled with gurney's products. got my dwarf pom and 2 blueberries from them. not in great condition upon arrival. my dwarf fig was waay back ordered. just arrived the other day - totally dead and desicated. i emailed the company and they immediately issued a new order - for a ship date of 5/11!!!!! no thanks. they say the refund check is "in the mail" - that was a week ago. humph. they lost a customer this season.
in the meantime - i have a fig twig on my counter.... no foliage - but stil slightly pliable... i'm watering to see if anything comes back. That's such a shame Mamakat....I'm so sorry to hear that. I've received some plants that aren't in perfect condition from them, but I attribute it to the heat, and travel time. And they've bounced back. How are the blueberries doing? Is the pom dying or the blossoms just fell? I hope your fig bounces back! Try giving it some superthrive.

Well, Mamakat...you are not alone on this one! I am happy to inform you that your pom is normal!...my blossoms are falling off as well! Just goes to prove that these babies are too small to fruit at this time. Maybe next year!

Hmmm....they sent me a refund check once for some replacement plants they were no longer offering. I wasn't looking for a refund, just to buy and they sent me a check. I don't remember how long it took to arrive, but it was fairly quick! If by next week, no check, send them an e-mail, and include your customer number. HOORAY for your twig!!! That is AWESOME!!!! I'd love to see a picture of it! Hope it's not camera shy!

Your Figgy wiggy looks great!!! I think it would be a good idea to give that baby some sunlight. Go with partial sun at first! Then slowly move it into more sunlight and partial shade. Great job getting it to come back!

MamaKat, Your fig looks great! Be sure to visit the Fig Forum over on GardenWeb. Here is a link: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/fig/The folks over there are really nice and extremely helpful. When I got my first figs they helped me save one from certain death. Cheers, DL

Thanks guys! it's come a long way - this what it looked like when it arrived - the leaves promptly crumbled away, leaving me with a stick in dirt. FigTwig is currenly flourishing on the patio. BTW - still no check from gurneys.

Thanks for posting the picks of your fig twig! Actually the twiggy pick looks more "Dormant" than dead. That's what my trees look like in the fall. It would be odd for a dormant plant to hold on to dead leaves though. And I guess depending on where the company is (Lawrenceburg, IN) I'm not familiar with their weather, it could have been that the plant was still dormant. Just a few weeks ago, there was still snow in Wyoming! But in any case...I'm glad you didn't give up! Your persistance prevailed! Do you have an e-mail address for Gurney's? I think an e-mail reminder is in order here. They should have sent you a healthy plant, or at least informed you if it was dormant. Let me know if you don't have an e-mail, and I'll look for it. Congrats Mamakat!

I would try calling customer service. I had a similar problem with a couple of Carmine Jewel cherry bushes. I bought and planted them last year, and this spring, they were deader 'n a door nail. I called Gurney's CS, and about 2 weeks later I had a full refund credit voucher. Mickie

Well, here we are two years later and one of my baby dwarf poms is a goner! The other survived! My pup I had last year took hold of both plants and ripped them out of the pots and left them with hardly any roots. The survivor bounced back, but had to be heavily pruned when I put it back in the pot after my pup got a hold of it. So it's just a bit bigger than my mom's pom was when I first posted a pic of her Pom. I'm happy to say that it looks like a fruit is starting to form on my mom's pom. It's so pretty! It wasn't receiving enough sunlight, and the pot it was in was just a bit too small. It would also dry out too quickly! I know they are drought tolerant, but they NEED WATER to form fruit! I've also been hand pollinating them with a paint brush I keep in the pot. The flowers are a bit different. Some have pollen and some don't. I'll post a picture of the pom as soon as I can.

Here's a pic of my Mom's Dwarf Pom and of it's very first fruit! We rarely see any bees in the back yard, so I have to do the pollinating, if we're to get any fruit. The flowers were not developing properly and they would all fall off. Now that the plant was given a good dose of Vermicomposting Tea at the end of spring, fertillizer, and a new pot to live in (self-watering), the flowers began to develop good quality flowers. Otherwise I don't think we would be getting any fruit this year.
Just before spring I gave the Pom a good pruning. It was about a foot taller. Some aphids had made their way onto it with the help of ants of course! But soon after, lady bug larvae were showing up! And the aphids are gone!
