I'm on a budget with gardening. I plan to do container gardening via some earthboxes I received (I have three of them) and some containers I  bought last year.

My question is do you really need 2 cubic feet of potting mix per earthbox?  That's what the instructions specify with the quantity of soil to use; however when I talked to somebody at a local hardware store where I live, they said they don't think I'd need that much per box.

How much soil should I use per earthbox?  How full should I fill them?

Welcome to EarthBox growing and the forums.

You will need every bit of 2 cubic feet of soil-less potting mix to fill an EarthBox.  You will fill it to the top (including corners) and then mound the top slightly, as the directions say.

People in garden shops and hardware stores are not well trained or experienced in the EarthBox method of growing.  If you don't set the box up right, you won't have the results we all brag about.  If not used right, EarthBox just becomes an expensive planter.

There's plenty of postings about the mixes and methods for setting up the boxes in these forums.  Read the grayed out posts in every subject and keep asking questions if it doesn't make sense.
