I have have wanted a vegetable garden for a long time. I have a big enough yard for it but I also have four Border Collies in my back yard. Dogs of any kind ( especially BC's ) and gardens don't mix. I found the Earth Box web site when I googled " container gardens" and was very interested. I ordered two and recieved and planted them with squash, canteloupe, zuchinni, and corn less than a month ago. I am amazed at how fast everything is growing. I am now completely addicted if not obsessed with my EBs. I check on them at least once a day and if it storms I may go out after the storm. While scoping the web site I found this forum and have become obsessed with it also. I have learned so much from the members on how to get the most from boxes. I have implemented several things that I read here.
I guess to wind this big long winded post up thank you all you long time EB users and newer users for sharing your expereinces with us newbies. I hope that as my experience grows I will also be able to share and help others too.
By the way more EBs will be on my patio next year. I invision a whole EB farm!

I also agree. I always wanted a garden but didn't really have a place to start. I love the Earthboxes (I now have 13 and numerous other containers) and the help and information on this site is incredible. I have learned so much in only the past several months and I have this forum in large part to thank! So if anyone is ever in DC and wants some tomato confit - I'm serving  |

Me 2.........
I started with 3 (I think) and now have 25 along with various other containers. I love gardening but had to give it up when my joints and bones started a mutiny (arthritis). I really did not think I would ever garden again until late one night I turned on the Home Shopping Network and there was the EB in all its glory!!

I'm an addict too!!! And now my boyfriend is an enabler. (probably because he gets some good stuff out of it) But worse, I've just purchased another one and the mix ingredients to take to my mom's home when we go visit her in a couple of weeks. I'm aiming to hook her up. I started this spring with 3-4 boxes. Bought two more the next month. And after this trip I'll be getting two more boxes. By the end of this summer, I'll have a shelf type system for some more boxes for next spring...built by my bf. As I said, he's my enabler. <3  |

What people on this forum are telling you is......You can't have just one! I myself started with 2, then got 3 more the following year, and for this year I have a total of 8! I'm already planning on atleast 4 more for the next year......so fun, but so addicting!  |

I started this year with 3 boxes and if all goes well I'm getting more next year. So far though it seems to be working pretty well.

I started with 2 Earthboxes, this year. I'm now up to 4 EBs and 3 Growboxes, and enjoying a LOT more maters and cukes then I've ever had in the ground. The soil in my area is great for pine trees and Azaleas...veggies...not so much. I figure as long as I have room on my patio, I can always use another Earthbox.  |

It was a free shipping deal one time, another was 25% off, and one was for white boxes with bad caster holes. Sales don't happen often, but they help when trying to build a small farm  Mickie |

Hopefully someone from EarthBox will tell us how many are sold per year. Both nationally and world wide.
I'll be going into 2010 with 18, and I know 3 people who have recieved them as gifts, accounting for another 7.
I've always bought in lots of 5 because there is a little savings that way. And once I bought some on the 'bad caster hole' sale.
And, yes, they are made out of recycled plastic. I've forgotten the %, but I remember being impressed with how high it was.
