Hello All,
I'm also a newbe. I'd like to ask the Zone 7 (I'm located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland) folks if it's too late (April 4th) to plant sugar snap peas (sugar bon) and leaf lettuce (heatwave). Can I still sneek in a crop or should I wait until fall?  Undecided

Thank you,
Tammy

I'm in zone 8b/9a, but I'm still putting in Super Sugar Snap Peas and five different kinds of lettuce this week.  Both are relatively fast growing so you should be fine.  In fact, I will plan to continue to grow seedlings of both to transplant continuously throughout the year.

I seem to remember this being the time to plant them when I lived in Pennsylvania.

HI Tammy

I'm also zone 7, and I just got my peas in a week ago. It will be a close one... if it gets real hot by end of May/early June, that will be the end of whatever harvest. Peas take about 68 days til harvest, so doing the math, count back from when it usually gets consistently very hot in your area. That, plus adding in some time to have a week or two of harvesting will give you your planting date. I've cheated a little by starting the peas in the house to buy me 2 weeks time before going in the ground/EB outside.
